Chemical Companies Case Studies

Our knowledge of both industry and technology allows us to provide our customers with effective solutions. We offer off-the-shelf products as well as modifications and completely new solutions. We chose to present two case studies: One, Print on demand with data from a MSDS program, Two, New company just starting needing a database to store MSDS information, be GHS compliant and keep other product related information. Every company is unique in its needs and requirements. Our programs are designed to answer these unique needs with little or no modification. You can read more about DrumWizard features and benefits here.

Case Study: Print on Demand using data from MSDS program.

Requirements/Needs:

  • Connect to current MSDS program
  • Reduce number of labels
  • Allow additional fields on labels (not in MSDS program)
  • GHS compliant
  • User Friendly
  • Solution

Provided company with our DrumWizard UPM (Universal Print Manage) edition. The program is able to connect directly (using standard ODBC driver) to other databases and systems such as SQL, Oracle, SAP and MSDS program.
All product labels were analyzed and grouped by product, design and size. As a result of the analysis it was determined that seven label templates needed to be created. These templates covered all needed sizes for all products, including orange diamond and red diamond labels.
Our design team together with our programmers, created the label templates, effectively reducing the number of labels from 300 to 7.
The labels were designed to pull all needed information as well additional user fields - unique to each label template.
All needed GHS symbols were incorporated where appropriate.
The system was installed in only few hours. All employees were trained and started using DrumWizard immediately.

    Conclusion:

The company now estimates that it saves every year over 500 man hours in label printing, design and modifications.

    Case Study: New Chemical Company

    Requirements/Needs:

  • Maintain Product Information including:
    • DOT information
    • Flash Point
    • GHS symbols
    • MSDS for the product (whole document)
    • Hazard phrasing
    • Warning words
  • Quickly populate the database with all required information.
  • Allow additional fields on labels (not from database)
  • GHS compliant
  • User Friendly
  • Solution

Provided company with our DrumWizard Suite edition. The program contains its own database. All Product information can be stored there. In addition the program has a Product Manager module that allows quick editing and adding of products to the system.
All product MSDS were analyzed and grouped by product type, and size. As a result of the analysis it was determined that only three label templates needed to be created. These templates covered all the hazardous phrasing, symbols and allowed for other user information at print time.
Our design team together with our programmers, created the label templates.
The information gathered from the MSDS was used to parse the data and together with the regulator at the company we determined what phrasing needed to be added to the database.
We created 2 prototype products. All needed phrasing, GHS symbols, warning words and general information were associated with these two products.
All the regulator had to do was copy the prototypes and rename them with all other products names. The regulator then went in product by product and based on the MSDS made slight changes to each product as was necessary.
The system was installed in only few hours. All employees were trained and started using DrumWizard immediately.

    Conclusion:

From beginning to end the project only lasted 3 weeks. The company was able to start production 4 months a head of time saving over $40,000.00 in overhead costs.
